Lady Gaga calls out NYT’s fashion critic Cathy Horyn

September 1, 2011

In Lady Gaga’s latest column for V Magazine, Gaga takes professional fashion critics to task for resorting to negativity and cynicism rather than originality and research. The long-standing journalistic hierarchy is deemed “irrelevant” by Gaga:

In the age of the Internet, when collections and performances are so accessible to the public and anyone can post a review on Facebook or Twitter, shouldn’t columnists and reviewers, such as Cathy Horyn, employ a more modern and forward approach to criticism, one that separates them from the average individual at home on their laptop?

“The reality of today’s media is that there are no echelons, and if they’re not careful, the most astute and educated journalists can be reduced to gossipers,” Gaga writes before praising teenage wunderkind Tavi Gevinson.

Guess who’s written mean things about Gaga’s fashion? Why, Cathy Horyn has! Of her outfit in the “Edge of Glory” video, Horyn wrote,

“She looked embalmed in the black Versace harness … and I don’t know why Donatella Versace said she was honored by Gaga’s selection, unless, of course, she thought she had to say something nice about the superstar.”

Wow, someone’s a little jealous of Gaga! ;)
